Why have we let our education system become mediocre, at best?
How is it that educators are no longer allowed to actually educate?
My sons teacher was recently reprimanded for reviewing some coursework with her students because some of them didn’t quite get it yet. Now these are first graders and they were reviewing counting money - a skill that everyone needs to know. However, the teacher was supposed to be doing something else at that very minute according to the “master plan.” The premise being that any first grader in the school could switch rooms and know exactly where they are in the studies.
Now this may sound like a great plan but it does not allow teachers the flexibility to instruct their students according to their individual needs. As in this case where a review was necessary before moving on to make sure that everyone understood the work. This makes sense to me as they may otherwise fall further behind if they do not understand something.
But today’s education system is a far cry from when I grew up. It seems to me that I received a far better education and one that promoted excellence and not dumbed the students down to the lowest common denominator.
It seems to me that the amount of money being spent on education is at an all time high but our education system seems to be at an all time low. We need change, the students need change as every student deserves the best education we can provide them but we are not providing it to them
